Back Where It All Started

I am very happy to share that I am starting as a tenured Associate Professor at the University of Crete. The University of Crete has a remarkable scientific community and a long tradition of strong research in computer science and mathematics. I feel grateful and excited to become part of this environment. Academic trajectories are shaped by mentors, collaborators, students, and sometimes by pure chance. I have been fortunate to work with wonderful colleagues and students over the years in the States, and I hope to continue building collaborations and mentoring young computer scientists and researchers in the years ahead back home, where it all started for me, i.e., Heraklion.

I will also hold a position at the Institute of Computer Science of the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH). FORTH-ICS is widely recognized as one of the leading research institutes in Greece and internationally, with a long tradition of impactful work in computer science, interdisciplinary research, and innovation. I am grateful for the journey so far and excited for what lies ahead, especially in these remarkable times for computer science, as software engineering and many other areas of our field are being transformed before our eyes while at the same time educating and evaluating students is becoming increasingly challenging in this rapidly evolving landscape.
