BU CS has its 40th birthday event

Today, we are commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Computer Science department at Boston University and I had the honor to represent the data group as the speaker. Here’s a historical snapshot from the inaugural annual report (thanks to the department chair Abraham Matta), indicating the establishment of the Computer Science department. Steve Homer and Assaf Kfoury are still active professors in the department.

I chose the image generated by DALLE, to start my presentation. Now, why start with this? Because it encapsulates the incredible journey of the department. Four decades ago, the idea of machines creating art or visuals like this would have been the stuff of science fiction. But today, due to the relentless pursuit of knowledge and innovation by institutions like Boston University, it’s reality. The slides are available here with special thanks to all the group members.
